Court delays action on Britney Spears' finances
LOS ANGELES (AP) - It will be a bit longer before the court begins to sort out Britney Spears' finances, but she may be getting a new zip code soon.

A Los Angeles court commissioner on Tuesday agreed to allow Spears' representatives to sell her home, the same paparazzi hotspot from which authorities have twice escorted the singer in protective custody.

The decision required a court's approval because the 26-year-old's finances and personal affairs remain under the control of her father.

James Spears became conservator of his daughter's affairs in February after several highly publicized mishaps. A trial about whether he will maintain that role was also delayed on Tuesday.

One of the main reasons: Britney Spears remains on vacation and won't be back in time to participate in crucial meetings about her finances and mental health. The pop star and her father weren't in court Tuesday.

Sealed documents from R. Kelly trial opened
CHICAGO (AP) - Documents unsealed from the R. Kelly child pornography trial include claims from the prosecution's star witness that an employee of the R&B star threatened her.

Lisa Van Allen says the employee told her last year she should've been killed for coming forward with information that could damage Kelly. No one was charged with threatening Van Allen.

Van Allen testified she had three-way sex several times with Kelly and the female who prosecutors say was the victim in the sex tape at the center of the trial.

Van Allen says in the pretrial statement she stole a separate video tape of one of those encounters from Kelly's duffel bag.

Jurors acquitted Kelly last week of child pornography. The documents were unsealed Tuesday.

Jackals, lizards, raptors delay flights in India
NEW DELHI (AP) - Jackals, monitor lizards and raptors descended on a runway at New Delhi's main airport after heavy rains Monday, delaying flights, an airport official said.

The animals were looking to dry off and warm up after the first monsoon rains hit India's capital, and their appearance on the runway forced authorities to stop planes from taking off and landing for about an hour, Indira Gandhi International Airport spokesman Arun Arora said in a statement.

Animal welfare authorities cleared the runway of wildlife, including monitor lizards that measured as long as 2-3 feet, Arora said.

Arora didn't say how many flights were delayed. The Hindustan Times newspaper said about 100 flights were affected.

In the monsoon season, which runs from June to September, heavy rains routinely delay flights all over India.

Man gets Air Force leave extended for White Castle
GENOA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Even the Air Force knows a good burger is hard to find. Aaron Kay's superior officer agreed to extend the serviceman's leave by one week so he could be on hand for the opening of a new White Castle restaurant in Livingston County.

The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus of Howell reports Kay was scheduled to return Monday to his base in Okinawa, Japan, and learned about Tuesday's planned opening in Genoa Township.

The Howell High graduate had returned to Howell with his wife and children to visit family. The 34-year-old loader master on C-130 cargo planes says he was "kind of heartbroken" about possibly missing the opening.

Kay says there isn't anything that comes close to a White Castle burger where he's stationed.

Kim Cattrall puts sex on the menu at food awards
NEW YORK (AP) - Is there anything sexier than food?

It's probably no surprise that for Kim Cattrall it's the people who make it.

Known for her vixen character, Samantha, in "Sex and the City," Cattrall put sex talk on the menu while hosting Sunday's James Beard Foundation awards, often called the "Oscars" of the food world.

Cattrall opened the ceremony talking about her own love of cooking, then asked co-host and celebrity chef Bobby Flay what has more sex appeal than food. A breath later, she offered her own answer.

"Maybe what's sexier is the chefs who are always cooking up something new and exciting," she cooed.

Cattrall then quickly challenged Flay to a "throwdown" in the kitchen, to which Flay said: "Don't worry. I'll be gentle."

"Sex and the City" grossed $21.3 million this weekend, earning $99.3 million total after only 10 days in theaters. The movie is based on the HBO television series

Lionel Richie gets a laugh taking a swipe at daughter Nicole
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) - It's not easy raising a celebutante. Take it from Lionel Richie.

The singer was accepting the "Icon" honor at Sunday night's taping of the TV Land Awards, when he got applause and a laugh at daughter Nicole's expense.

"Forget about surviving 40 years in the music business," Lionel Richie told the audience. "Just surviving 27 years of Nicole Richie has been a struggle-and-a-half, I want to tell you. I stand here as a survivor, I want you to know, for all the parents out there."

In 2007, Nicole Richie spent 82 minutes in jail after being convicted of driving under the influence of drugs. She was arrested in December 2006 after witnesses reported seeing her Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle headed the wrong way on a freeway in Burbank, Calif.

Nicole, who made a name for herself on Fox's "The Simple Life" along with Paris Hilton, hasn't posed for any mug shots lately. Rather, she has been spotted out and about with 3-month-old Harlow, her daughter with Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden.

The sixth annual TV Land Awards are scheduled to air June 15 on the cable network.

Homing pigeon checks into hospital for rest
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - A homing pigeon on its last leg of a 515-mile race checked into the hospital for a well-deserved rest. The friendly pigeon flew into the Meadows Hospital courtyard earlier this week and stuck around after receiving a warm welcome, said technician Jennifer Sommer, who first spotted the bird.

"Miss Pigeon" was not afraid of people, making her popular with the staff and the patients at the mental health facility. She has even sat in on some group health sessions.

"She just sat on the picnic table, and just sat next to us and wasn't afraid of us at all," Sommer said.

Sommer called the number on the band on the pigeon's leg and connected with the Central Indiana Racing Pigeon Club, which said the bird belonged to Al Coury, who lives in Wanamaker, not far southeast of Indianapolis.

Coury raises racing pigeons, hand-feeding the nestlings to socialize them. He has about 100 pigeons in his loft. He told Sommer to feed his bird unpopped popcorn, which she gobbled up.

He said the bird was one of 12 pigeons he shipped to Montgomery, Ala., for release on May 31. It took the bird about a day and a half to get to Bloomington.

"It was a very difficult race with lots of wind," Coury said.

Several of Coury's other pigeons were home to roost the night before, and his loft won the race.

"I was shocked that they got here so soon," he said.

`Entertainment Tonight' backs Angelina Jolie twins story
NEW YORK (AP) - The birth of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's twins is turning into the type of mystery that might make a good movie one day.

The executive producer for "Entertainment Tonight" said Monday that she wanted to "see how this story plays out" before retracting a report that the twins had been born, despite a denial from Pitt's manager and a claim that someone might be posing as Jolie's personal assistant to fool reporters.

The TV show reported Friday that twin girls had been born, identifying its source as a person in the delivery room, and quoted another Web site giving the babies' alleged names.

Rival news organizations quickly shot the story down. The Associated Press, which had picked up the "Entertainment Tonight" report after talking to executives at the show about their source, later quoted Pitt's manager saying the "ET" story was not true.

In the world of celebrity journalism, it may be the biggest story of the year.

"This is an absolutely huge, huge story for us," said Sarah Ivens, editor in chief of OK! magazine. "Essentially you have two of the most beautiful, famous people in the world. We've all seen they've had one baby, Shiloh, and it is the coolest, most adorable baby on the planet. And this time they're having two? It can't get any better."

It was "pandemonium" at the offices of Us Weekly when the "Entertainment Tonight" report was posted, said Dina Sansing, the magazine's entertainment director.

People magazine was first to report that the story was not true. Us Weekly checked its own sources and concluded the same, Sansing said.

On Monday, Jolie's attorneys advised news organizations that someone was posing as Holly Goline, Jolie's personal assistant, and had sent out false information about the movie star. The source for the "Entertainment Tonight" report was an e-mail supposedly from Goline, said an executive at the show who did not want to be identified for competitive reasons.

Was "Entertainment Tonight" punk'd? Perhaps not, the executive said.

The show initiated its own contact with Goline after hearing rumors the babies had been born in France, said the executive. The person who made the contact was an "ET" producer who had worked with Goline while at CNN and kept Goline's e-mail address, the executive said. The executive forwarded an e-mail exchange that appeared to support this version of events.

In the e-mails, Goline - or the impostor - said she was there for the deliveries and everyone was doing well. Pressed by "ET" for more information, the person said she could say no more.

"Entertainment Tonight" had removed its story from its Web site after the questions were raised. No mention was made of the story on Monday's show.

"Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are friends of 'Entertainment Tonight.' We have spent years cultivating that friendship, working with them side by side on many of their projects," Linda Bell Blue, executive producer for "Entertainment Tonight" and its sister broadcast, "The Insider," said in a statement Monday. "We wish them and their children well. We are waiting to see how this story plays out."

Millions of dollars could be at stake. After Shiloh was born, Pitt and Jolie were at the forefront of a growing movement by celebrities to auction off exclusive rights to first public pictures of their babies (Pitt and Jolie donated the money to charity). Sometimes exclusive details on the birth come with these rights.

Ivens said OK! would be interested in exclusive pictures of the babies, but would not discuss whether there were any negotiations to obtain them.

Jolie has said the babies are due in August. Ivens said OK! grew more comfortable over the weekend that the "Entertainment Tonight" story was wrong because of other clues. There were no reports of flowers being delivered to hospitals, or grandparents flying in, she said, and Pitt was seen attending a sporting event over the weekend - an unlikely spot for a new father of premature twins.

Judge in R. Kelly trial orders reporter to court

CHICAGO (AP) - The judge in R. Kelly's child pornography trial warned a newspaper reporter who failed to appear in court Tuesday that he must show up Wednesday or face contempt charges.

Judge Vincent Gaughan rejected arguments from Chicago Sun-Times lawyers that music critic Jim DeRogatis' rights as a reporter would be violated if he were ordered to testify. The judge said DeRogatis wasn't asked to appear "as a reporter" but "as a material witness to a crime."

Gaughan said Tuesday morning that he would consider ordering DeRogatis' arrest, but later only issued a new order for him to be in court Wednesday.

DeRogatis received a sex tape in 2002, then turned it over to authorities. Prosecutors say the 27-minunte tape shows Kelly having sex with an underage girl and have charged him with child pornography.

A visibly angry Gaughan clashed with Sun-Times attorney Damon Dunn on Tuesday, saying he didn't accept that Illinois law granted DeRogatis a reporter's privilege not to appear while the issue was under appeal.

"I think you're making a little of Illinois law up today," he told Dunn.

Sun-Times lawyers told Gaughan they filed an appeal on the matter before Tuesday's hearing, but Gaughan said they had filed it in the wrong place. Dunn said he would push for an emergency ruling from the Illinois Appellate Court.

"If he testifies as a reporter, it would be a serious breach of his statutory rights and his constitutional rights," Dunn said.

If asked to testify, DeRogatis could invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and refuse to answer questions, Dunn said last week.

The judge gave jurors the day off Tuesday. The defense is expected to begin presenting their case Wednesday.

Kelly, 41, has pleaded not guilty to 14 counts of child pornography. Lawyers for Kelly, who faces 15 years in prison if convicted, say he is not on the video. They have also suggested his likeness may have been computer generated.

The judge said defense attorneys can't ask DeRogatis about his duties as a reporter, including about his sources.

Kelly attorney Marc Martin said Tuesday that the defense does not want to ask DeRogatis about his sources, but about whether he made a copy of the sex tape and later viewed it with a relative of the alleged victim in the case.

Mow your lawn... or risk jail time in Canton, Ohio
CANTON, Ohio (AP) - Homeowners who don't mow their grass in the northeast Ohio city of Canton now face stiffer penalties - including possible jail time.

The city council unanimously passed a law Monday that makes a second high-grass violation a fourth-degree misdemeanor carrying a fine of up to $250 and as many as 30 days in jail.

The previous law only made the first violation a minor misdemeanor, with a fine of up to $150 but no jail time. The new law is to take effect in 30 days.

"This is the type of action we need to take in order to clean up our neighborhoods and our city," Mayor William J. Healy II said.

The laws are an effort to reduce the roughly $250,000 the city spends to cut about 2,000 private lots each year and to address public complaints, Councilman Greg Hawk has said.

Minn. city sets reward for legendary creature
LAKE CITY, Minn. (AP) - Some in eastern Minnesota say there's a large, serpentlike creature living in the Mississippi River's Lake Pepin below Maiden Rock. If it exists, it could fatten your bank account.

The Lake City Tourism Bureau has helped set up a $50,000 reward for hooking, netting or capturing the creature on a camera.

Larry Nielson owns a paddle wheeler on the lake and claims to have seen the creature, which the locals have named "Pepie." Nielson and others would like to see the creature draw some tourists.

Boosters say the legend of Pepie comes in part from the native Dakota people that lived in the area. They refused to travel on Lake Pepin in bark canoes because of large creatures that would come to the surface and damage their boats.

Brazil inmate had $173K, guns, TV, fridge in cell
SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - The luxurious lifestyle of a convict in northeastern Brazil has come to an abrupt end after police confiscated a plasma TV set, gym equipment, two pistols and cash worth $173,000 from his cell, officials said Tuesday.

Bahia's Prison Affairs Department head Jose Francisco Leite said police raided the cell Monday in a statewide crackdown on drug trafficking.

He said Tuesday authorities have ordered an investigation of how of Genilson Lins da Silva got 280,000 reals ($173,000), two .38-caliber pistols and other amenities into his cell at the Bahia's Lemos Brito Penitentiary. Silva is serving 28 years for robbery and murder and was transferred to another prison.

Leite says Silva "led a posh prison life in his cell, which he occupied all by himself."

Dutch man injures posterior in mooning accident
UTRECHT, Netherlands (AP) - Utrecht police say a 21-year-old Dutch man is recovering after a "mooning" that went horribly wrong.

A police statement says the man and two others had run down a street in Utrecht with their pants pulled down in the back "for a joke."

It says that at one point the 21-year-old "pushed his behind against the window of a restaurant" that broke and resulted in "deep wounds to his derriere."

The statement released Tuesday says police detained the three men after the incident Sunday morning. But the cafe owner decided not to press charges after the men agreed to pay for the broken window.

The injured man was treated for his injuries at a nearby hospital.

More Tests Needed For Britney Spears
Britney Spears€™ folks were in court yesterday but nothing really significant happened. The court commissioner basically said that Spears is still unable to participate "in any meaningful way" in legal proceedings and may need further tests regarding her conservatorship.

Britney€™s doc has made a "differential diagnosis" and "wants to do additional testing in the not-too-distant future €“ something we will need to address in June,€ the Commissioner told her lawyers yesterday.

Britney€™s dad and lawyer Andrew Wallet still stand as Britney€™s conservators which is probably a good thing. She might slip if she has complete control. Money does buy attitude.
